Beyond The Voice

Pauline writes as well as sings and her work as a lyricist connects well with audiences too. Choosing the right words with an image-led instinct, she can work efficiently towards a brief and make it count.  Give her a mood, a theme, a scene to write toward and she will give you words that connect from the first listen whilst leaving something to come back to later.

She is equally comfortable writing from scratch or working from someone else's fragment.  A chord loop, a hook, a lyric with no tune, she can take these small sketches and mould a verse, a chorus and a middle eight, turning something undeveloped into a finished work.  All the while forming ideas of where harmonies can be added and knowing just where the loud and soft moments should be.  This makes her a natural fit for collaborative sessions or working separately - not just a topline vocal.  These instincts have been gleaned from many years of live performances at intimate folk clubs and on the larger stages of festivals such as Celtic Connections or supporting great acts such as Rumer.  This gives her a real feel for how audiences respond to a song, built from the many hours that go into shaping one before it reaches the stage.

In The Studio

Studio time is the one thing nobody gets back, so Pauline treats preparation as part of the job, not an afterthought.  A substantial amount of preparation happens well before the session, so that the song is learned, the lyric is lived in, and the melody is second nature before she ever steps to the mic, all without losing the freshness of a first pass. That groundwork means she can typically offer a genuinely usable first take, freeing up session time for the parts that can benefit from a little bit of experimentation or embellishing. No warm-ups, no run-throughs, no time spent finding her voice or her pitch.

Equipment

Pauline has her own home recording setup (Cubase Studio, Scarlett 2i4 Interface, Shure Beta 58a Mic), giving her the flexibility to record and deliver clean vocal takes or stems remotely when an in-person session isn't practical - ready for a producer to take into the mix.
